Admissions Requirements

Application Deadlines

The application deadline for the January start date is NOVEMBER 8 . The application deadline for the July start date is MAY 8.

Degree Requirement

No specific degree level is required for admission into the Community Preparedness and Disaster Management Certificate Program.

Required Application Materials
All applicants to the Community Preparedness and Disaster Management Certificate Program must submit the following:

  1. Current Resume
  2. Essay. Prepare a two page (500 word) statement of purpose addressing the following:  How will this certificate program at UNC-CH contribute to your projected career? We use a team based learning approach, and are looking for students who will benefit from and contribute to the learning environment. What do you bring to the table? Please provide any additional information that you think will strengthen your application?
  3. Completion of online Graduate School application. You may start your application by logging into your MyUNC account and scrolling to the bottom of the page, where you will find the Apply Online button. If you don't have an account yet, you can easily create one here. Applications for the next academic year are available in August. A current email address is a required field on the application since all correspondence is conducted by email.  If you have problems with the online form, contact the Graduate School.

PLEASE NOTE:   You will be required to upload a document to the college transcript section of your online application. If you do not have a college transcript, uploading a Word document indicating that a transcript does not apply is an acceptable alternative.

Residency

Long Form Complete the Long Form if you have lived in the state of North Carolina fewer than three years by the first day of classes of the term for which you are applying: http://regweb.unc.edu/residency/Residency%20Form.pdf.

Once you have submitted a residency form for the program, you will not have to submit another one unless you do not take a course in the fall or spring semester or unless your residency information changes.
